Divya, not so sweet anymore
The actor who was in Lucknow on Sunday for a TV show, says playing negative characters is challenging.
Divya Dutta was recently in Lucknow to attend a safety awareness campaign for her show Saavdhan India. A frequent visitor to the city, Divya says, “Mere bahot achhe mitra ban gaye hain Lucknow mein, so some of my special moments have been spent here. Yahan khane peene ki aur mehmaan nawazi ki toh koi kami nahi hoti hai so yahan par har jagah se invites aate hain.
But what I take back with me after staying in Lucknow is a lot of warmth.“

Negative roles are exciting
Divya who is known more for her positive roles in movies, recently played negative char acters in Badlapur and ChalkAnd Duster . Ask her about this image shift and she says, “I remember shooting for a film with Arshad Warsi and he also pointed out to me ki tum itni sweet ho phir bhi itne negative roles kyun kar rahi ho. But as an actor it is very exciting to get such roles. These roles were different which I had never done before.

An unconventional actor
Divya, who has won various awards for her supporting roles, has never played a lead role in mainstream Bollywood movie. “Many male actors such as Nawazuddin and Irrfan Khan are doing supporting roles, as well as lead and negative roles. Par unko sab poochte hain. But if a female actress har tarah ka genre karti hai toh usko supporting roles hi kyu milte hain, I don't know. In Ram Singh Charlie, which is my next film, I am playing the lead, Iraada with Naseer sahab and Arshad Warsi also has me as the lead. For me it does not matter as I will always go for a better role. Even if you see me doing four scenes, that will be the best role in the film,“ she avers.
